Mud House

Sede Boker- Israel

1977

Arie Rahamimoff was the head of the Desert Architecture Unit at the Ben-Gurion University 1977-1980.

The Desert Architecture Unit (Eli Ilan, Mike Kaplan, Mati Kunes, Naomi Burshtein, Larry Ma'ayan and others - 1978) prepared the planes for this Mud House.

This experimental building demonstrated the desert architecture principles:

- Exposure to low winter sun

- Shading (vines) from summer sun

- Thermal mass

- Cross ventilation

After 40 years since construction the building is still operating successfully and is a very popular residence for the University scholars.
